John Ramos

John Ramos brings a unique blend of discipline, compassion, and purpose to his academic journey. A U.S. Navy veteran and first-generation college student, John is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in psychology with a minor in child development at California State L.A., where he maintains a 3.57 GPA and has earned dean’s list honors for three consecutive semesters. His goal is to become a licensed child psychologist, providing emotional and developmental support to children from underserved communities.

John’s path has been shaped by service: in the military, in the classroom, and in his community. He served as an aviation structural mechanic in the Navy, where he developed leadership and problem-solving skills under pressure. He now works as a substitute preschool teacher and serves as a peer educator for mental health awareness on campus. His volunteer work includes supporting individuals in crisis through the crisis text line and leading nature education programs in the San Gabriel National Forest.

“As a veteran and first-generation student, I’ve faced challenges that have only strengthened my resolve to help others. This scholarship allows me to continue my education and move closer to a career rooted in care, connection, and advocacy for children.”

John is the son of Rosario Tinoco.
