Associa Community Management Corporation and Select Community Services Participate in 31st Annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup Day

May 21, 2019

Chantilly, VA – May 21, 2019 – Associa Community Management Corporation (CMC) and Select Community Services (SCS) participated in the annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup Day that focuses on altruism and nature preservation.

Organized by the Washington Metropolitan Chapter of Community Associations Institute (CAI) and the Alice Ferguson Foundation, the Watershed Day is the largest regional event of its kind, with all governing entities along with the Potomac’s border contributing. The event brings all members of the community together to protect the environment and promote community action. CMC and SCS sponsored their local event and had several managed communities participate.

SCS managed community, First River Farms, a mid-sized community in Alexandria, Virginia and CMC managed community, Potomac Shores, a large riverfront community with over 850 acres of open space in Dumfries, Virginia collected nearly 20 bags of trash each, and their activities also included removing a rusted barbeque grill and an old telecommunications box from the river.

“We are delighted to see that our communities are taking active roles to protect and preserve the beauty and natural habitat that the Potomac River provides,” stated John Tsitos, CMCA®, AMS®, PCAM®, CMC and SCS branch president. “CMC and SCS’s emphasis on community engagement not only promotes advocacy through wonderful events like Watershed Cleanup Day, but it also provides an example of how communities can make a difference in the environment that surrounds them.”
