Sustainability Efforts

At HRW, we sincerely believe that the community management industry can make a difference, and we are committed to leading the way by taking a closer look at new and better ways to operate in consistency with our Stewardship value, “We prudently protect the resources for which we are responsible.”

The innovations that are achieved as a result of our efforts, save our clients money, improve efficiency and convenience, and have a positive impact on the environment. In addition, HRW is also uniquely positioned to be a valuable resource to associations and residents who are interested in lowering their impact on the environment without incurring unnecessary costs, through our affiliation with qualified vendors and our knowledge of energy-saving maintenance solutions.

HRW, Inc., has achieved Green Plus™ Certification - awarded by the Institute for Sustainable Development (ISD) - which recognizes organizations not only for their environmental efforts, but for their success in balancing strong business, community and environmental practices – known as triple bottom line sustainability. The Green Plus™ program helps businesses find the equilibrium within the areas of people, planet and performance through a rigorous review process that analyses each of these aspects of the business.

Some of the sustainable practices that HRW has adopted include:

  • Electronic dissemination of board packets and double-sided printing has reduced paper output by about 80%, saving costs for clients
  • On-line billing statements, real-time account viewing and payment options for homeowners who prefer to opt-in to paperless solutions
  • Electronic storage and archiving of the volumes of association documents, correspondence etc that we are responsible for maintaining on behalf of our clients
  • Customized collections practices for associations that wish to cut down on the volume of late letters that are mailed
  • Associa offers comprehensive turn-key website solutions for associations who wish to keep residents informed without the cost of newsletter production
  • Tele-commuting and geographic clustering of associations – by enabling our managers to reduce unnecessary travel, this saves our clients money and improves our efficiency and service
  • Smart purchasing ensures that products are sourced locally when possible and recycled office supplies are purchased, or re-used where possible
  • Waste that originates from our office and our maintenance worksites is recycled, donated to goodwill or channeled to proper disposal sites
  • Various community efforts involve HRW staff support of charitable organizations, including volunteering with the Miracle League of the Triangle, the Red Cross, Associa Cares fund raisers and HRW volunteer activities within the communities that we manage
  • Assist residents and associations with maintenance solutions that reduce energy and water consumption, cutting utility bills and saving considerable money and resources over time (Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency)

These options not only reduce waste, but improve company efficiency, generate goodwill in our community and ultimately save our clients money.
